All accommodation providers are now required to include additional information to help you to decide where is best for you to stay. Here at Lakeside we aim to offer the highest standards to enhance your stay. We wish to exceed your expectations and of course would like you to return so please let us know if you have any requirement not covered here or on our other web pages. Arrivals by Public TransportLakeside can be reached easily by the X5 bus which runs every 2 hours from Keswick main terminal and will take you on to Penrith for train connections (20 miles).You will be dropped at Brathay Hill - Dubwath which is 500 m from the House. The X4 will bring you in from Cockermouth and Workington and runs an alternative hourly service to the X5. The X4 stop is 10 mins walk from House. We would be happy to collect you by car with advance notice. Please note that as we are not within walking distance to the towns of Cockermouth or Keswick, you may find getting about the Lake District easier with your own car. Local Taxis are available
Arrivals and Car Park FacilitiesWe are fortunate to have a gravelled car parking area to the front of the property. This will accommodate 8 vehicles (enough for all our guests) provided you do not leave excessively large spaces between each vehicle. We also have safe storage for bicycles and motorbikes. Main Entrance & ReceptionCheck in time is between 4pm and 7pm Please advise if you would like to arrive outside of these times. Please enter the House by using the front door. There is no other access for guests. Please note there are 3 steps followed by 5 further steps up to the front door. They are approx 5 inches in height. The front door has a width of approx 36 inches and is kept closed. On initial arrival please ring the bell. You will be greeted by the proprietors who will give you your house keys to enable you to come and go at leisure. Please inform us if you need help with luggage. Guests may come and go during the day and evening and there is no night time curfew so that wedding guests and later guests returning need not worry about being locked out. Our guests are always considerate to each other regarding noise levels. Public AreasThe Breakfast Room and Residents Lounge are located on the Ground Floor. The Hallway and Breakfast Room have original wooden oak floors with one large rug for each area. All other areas offer wall to wall carpet. All toilets are situated in guest bedrooms. There is no downstairs toilet for general use. The Hallway table offers leaflets from the local Tourist Information Centre on what to do. Breakfast RoomGuests sitting at tables for 2 may sit where they wish. We have a table for 3 for guests staying in the triple room. We also have a table for 4 for guests who wish to sit together. Tables are always rearranged to suit guests who wish to sit together. Residents LoungeOur cosy residents lounge comfortably seats 8. Extra chairs can be brought in for busier times. There is digital TV in this room as well as books and magazines. BedroomsMain Landing To get to the first floor there is a flight of 18 stairs measuring 6 inches in depth.There is a hand rail on the right. This landing accommodates:

Second Floor To get to this landing there is a flight of 4 stairs and 8 stairs measuring approx 7 inches in depth. Bannister to right hand side.
Internet Access, etc.We are able to offer our guests free Broadband connections for their own lap-tops. Mobile phone reception is generally available throughout the house. Digital TV service is available in the Resident's Lounge. For Your ReassuranceA Fire alarm is fitted with call points and smoke detectors. A bell will ring if you need to evacuate the building. The designated Assembly Point is in the car park. Fire extinguishers and blankets are situated at certain points throughout the premises. All electrical items available for your use i.e. hairdryers and irons are tested to ensure they comply with the British Safety Standards. All sockets, plugs wiring and cords are maintained by a PAP certified electrician on an annual basis. Fire alarms are tested weekly and maintained by professionals as are the fire extinguishers. Smoking is not permitted inside the property. Ashtrays are provided on the furnished outside terrace. Eating OutWe are situated within easy reach of Keswick (10 mins drive) and Cockermouth (5 mins drive). There are many restaurants and pubs offering food in the towns. Even closer are the villages of Braithwaite and Bassenthwaite and the hamlet of Embleton, all with establishments offering good food. The Rosette Awarded Pheasant Inn is within walking distance. It has recently won the Best Inn Award in the Good Pub Guide and offers "fine dining" in the evening. We would be happy to recommend and make bookings on your behalf. LaundryWe have a drying room for wet boots and clothes. Leisure FacilitiesPlease ask us about local hotels who offer pamper days to non residents. Bassenthwaite Lake is opposite the house and is a private lake encouraging bird life, Otters and Red Squirrel. The Osprey nest close by and feed opposite the house between April and September. Fishing is available on the river within walking distance. Permits available from local Inn. Boating days and sailing lessons can be arranged at Portinscale on your behalf. Beautiful walks in abundance to suit all levels. Future technologyWe are currently planning to introduce digi boxes and flat screen TVs with DVD players. Target for completion end of 2008 to comply with digital changeover. |
